Biodegradable bags are bags made of polymeric materials, more often polyethylene, with the addition of a biodegradable polymer additive or based on biodegradable raw materials of plant origin. Depending on the chosen composition, they can have a different service life (on average, from 3 months to 1 year) and a different decomposition period (usually from 1 to 3 years).
