J.-L. Gaultier is a French sculptor. He worked in the field of portrait and decorative plastics. He created models for the Van Mons bronze foundry in Paris. The sculpture "Don Quixote" was made in 1870. It is paired with the sculpture by J.-L. Gaultier "Mephistopheles" (1870). The couple personifies the main ethical categories: Good and Evil. Don Quixote is the protagonist of the novel by the classic of world literature M. Cervantes "The cunning hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha", a poor Spanish nobleman. His name has become a household name and is applied to people whose nobility, generosity and readiness for chivalrous deeds come into tragic conflict with reality. In a broad sense, Don Quixote is a symbol of Good. A tall figure of Don Quixote, in knightly armor, with a sword on his left side and an open book in his left hand. The inscription on the face of the stand: “J. Gautier. ”The Kasli plant has been casting the sculpture since 1887.
